Orange Cranberry Scones

This amazing crispy outside and soft & moist inside homemade orange cranberry scones can make your morning table beyond perfect. Filing with delicious cranberries and finishing with orange glaze take you to a whole new level of taste. These scones are perfect for breakfast, but if you like you can try as a dessert also.

Ingredients for this Easy Scones :

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour + 1/4 cup for work surface
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp orange extract
  • 1 tsp orange zest, preferably organic
  • 1 cup craisins (dried cranberries)
Ingredients for Glaze:
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh orange juice

How to Make Orange Cranberry Scones :

Step One:

Line a large, rimmed baking parchment paper or a Silpat® baking mat. Set aside. Mix two cups flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in butter with a fork until butter is in pea-sized pieces.

Step Two:

In a separate bowl, combine the heavy cream, sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, orange extract, and orange zest. Whisk to combine.

Step Three:

Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined. Add in the craisins and stir until just mixed.

Step Four:

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour onto a clean work surface. Transfer scone batters onto a floured surface and lightly knead into a ball. Press the dough down into a ½” high rectangle (approximately 6” x 10”). Cut in half lengthwise, and then each half into 3 rectangles. Then, cut each rectangle diagonally to create triangle-shaped pieces.

Step Five:

Transfer the scones to the prepared baking sheet, leaving 1-2” between them. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before baking. Pre-heat oven to 400°F/204°C, then adds the baking sheet to the oven when ready. Bake the scones for 18-22 minutes, or until they are nicely golden brown and cooked through. Remove from oven and cool for 5-10 minutes.

Step Six:

While the scones are cooling, prepare the orange glaze by stirring the powdered sugar and orange juice together in a small bowl until thoroughly combined.

Step Seven:

You can make delicious 12 scones perfectly according to this recipe and serve the scones warm drizzled with some of the orange glazes on top. Start your day with a piece of this amazing scone and a coffee, you will love this.

How long can I store Scones :

These scones are perfect in fresh. But you can keep these Orange Cranberry Scones up to 2 days at room temperature or in the refrigerator for some more days. And if you mind storing these scones for later, remember to store scones without the orange glaze, You can add the glaze when you serve. But I don’t think you can store these yummy Orange Cranberry Scones for that long. If you refrigerated them, you can microwave Scones before serve as they are best served warm.
